Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka Shakar was an American and British sitar artist. She is the youngest female and also the first woman to receive a British House of Commons shield. Anoushka is the new star on the rise in Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil and is also his daughter. She was born 1982 in London. Her early years included a period of time in London as well as New Delhi. At the age of 13, she gave her first show on stage in New Delhi. After that, she moved to Encinitas CA where she graduated from High School with honours in 1999. Anouskha is yet to be a mature woman but she has a very impressive career in recording and performing. She often joins her father in performances this she's been doing for several years. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. It was followed by the album Live At Carnegie Hall, a Grammy-nominated album two years following. Her career on stage is broad as she's performed in most of the biggest venues in the world. Anoushka Shakar's work is not just limited to music. Bapi the Love of My Live, a biography of a picture that was dedicating to her dad Ravi Shankar was published in 2002. In 2003, she was a Bharat natyam young dancer in Dance Like a Man. Anoushka Shankar is an emerging celebrity and her popularity is expected to continue growing. Anoushka spent a lot of time between London and Delhi throughout her childhood. After that, she moved to California to finish high school. She began studying music when she was nine years old and was a sitar player to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the birth of her father in Delhi just four years after. Alongside her father, they toured around the globe, Anoushka had a wealth of experience performing at Carnegie Hall while still in her teens. She performed at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival and making recordings together with George Harrison. She was the youngest and sole female winner of the House of Commons Shield awarded by the British Parliament for her musicianship and talent as a preeminent musician of music in Asian Arts.
